Pet Ownership, Pet Licensing, and Dangerous Dog or Dog Bite

If you are a pet(s) owner or planning on becoming a pet(s) owner, it is important for you to know the rules for owning a pet(s). For further details, you can refer to the Responsible Pet Ownership Brochure and/or the Animal Control Bylaw.

A pet license(s) can be purchased either in person at the town office or through an etransfer to birchhills.town123@gmail.com. When purchasing a new pet license(s), you must complete the pet registration form as well as email a picture of your animal(s) to the town email address birchhills.town123@gmail.com. The registration form is available by email or online here. A Pet license(s) are to be renewed yearly. You can do this either in person at the town office or through an etransfer. Please indicate your past pet(s) license number in the comment section of your etransfer at the time of payment. If this is the first time you are registering your pet(s), please indicate it is a new registration and your pet(s) tag(s) will be mailed out to you, typically with your water bill if you access the service.

Stray Animal, Animal Feces, Animal in Distress, Animal Cruelty, or Animal Abandoned

To report a dog(s) or cat(s) at large, animal feces, a domestic animal(s) in distress, or a domestic animal(s) that has been abandoned, you can contact the Town Office (306) 749-2232 during business hours (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday). After hour calls may not be answered immediately, but you can leave a voicemail and someone will contact you as soon as possible.

If you find a dog(s) or cat(s) at large after hours or on weekends, if possible, secure the animal(s) or contact the Town Office to pick up the animal(s) during their business hours.

To report cruelty to a domestic animal (s), you can contact Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan at 306-382-0002 or 1-844-382-0002 or report online.

Dangerous Dog or Dog Bite

To report a dangerous dog(s), you can contact the Town Office (306) 749-22322 during business hours (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday). After hour calls may not be answered immediately, but you can leave a voicemail and an someone will contact you as soon as possible, or you can contact the RCMP Melfort Detachment 306-752-6420 after hours and on weekends to report a dog bite.
