A Century of Steady Growth
The history of Birch Hills dates back to around 1870 with the migration of settlers from Manitoba, Ontario and Europe. From that time settlement flourished and a hamlet site was established in 1903. Because of the hills to the south and east and the abundance of birch trees which covered the area, the hamlet was named Birch Hills. While native birch trees are not as prevalent in the area today as they once were, many residents have caught the spirit of the name by planting birch trees on boulevards and private property.
Birch Hills continued to grow, reaching Village status on 1907 and Town status in 1960. Along with growth came modern schools, churches, recreation facilities, natural gas, water and sewage, and paved streets.
Birch Hills enjoys a province-wide reputation as a good and satisfying place to live. Progressive, friendly and generous people of diversified cultural backgrounds have made this community one of the best.
